New Face Mask Law Explained

Wearing face masks and face coverings will become compulsory in shops and supermarkets from Friday, July 24th. It will be against the law not to. Here's our guide on what you need to know so that your next visit to Sheffield city centre is a safe one.

Where will I have to wear one?

Already, face masks and coverings are mandatory on public transport, hospital and prison visits. From July 24th, they will become compulsory in shops and supermarkets

What happens if I don't wear one?

You may be refused entry to shops and public transport for not wearing a mask or face covering. From July 24th, police have the power to fine you £100 if you break the new law. 

Who is exempt?

Children under 11 don't have to wear face masks, neither do police, public transport and shop staff, emergency responders or people relied upon for lip reading.

People with certain medical conditions are also exempt if you think this could apply to you, please check the NHS website.
