We are proud to announce that the main stage at this year’s Sheffield Festival of Reggae will be officially namedThe Austin Grant Stage, in memory of a beloved community leader, cultural pioneer, and reggae enthusiast whose legacy continues to inspire. ⭐️
In 1989, Austin opened the legendaryBob Marley Studioin Sheffield, having secured permission from Rita Marley herself. The studio welcomed artists from across genres and countries and served as a training ground for young sound engineers, many of whom went on to build careers of their own thanks to his guidance and vision.
Austin Grant was the founder of Music in the Sun festival, the festival that started in a humble car park behind SADACCA and grew into one of the most celebrated music events in the region. His leadership, his devotion, and the tireless work of volunteers turned it into a beacon of unity, creativity, and Caribbean culture. Austin worked with many of artists over the years in the studio and the festival like Freddie McGregor, Frankie Paul, Sugar Minott, Shabba Ranks and Luciano naming just a few.
This stage stands not just as a tribute to Austin’s musical contributions, but as a symbol of his heart, big enough to embrace everyone, and strong enough to carry a movement. From youth work and sound engineering to gardening, mentorship, and bringing people together, Austin lived a life of joy, generosity, and purpose.
As we celebrate together at this year’s festival, letThe Austin Grant Stageremind us of the rhythm of resilience, the harmony of hope, and the spirit of a man who helped build something beautiful for us all.
