😍 Our 2026-2027 edition of the Queer Realities Directors’ Lab got underway last week with a wonderful Sheffield workshop! 🏳️‍🌈 Our cohort met each other for the first time at Gut Level, and took part in screenings, talent roundtables, Q&A sessions, and a masterclass from Cara Holmes - director of Lesbian Lines, which was nominated for our International Competition at Sheffield DocFest 2026! Next week, our filmmakers will head over to Germany to visit our amazing partner festival DokLeipzig for the next stage of the programme - where they will have the chance to attend numerous exclusive networking events! Memory, resistance and the power of remembrance. COLLATERAL ECHOES, the immersive exhibition by British Ghanaian artist and filmmaker Baff Akoto which was the centrepiece of our Alternate Realities programme in 2025, is now showing at QUAD Gallery, Derby - and entry is free. Bringing together XR, moving image, immersive sound and performance, the exhibition honours Black and immigrant Britons who have died following police contact since 1969, and the families and communities who carry their memory. Featuring spoken prose by Paapa Essiedu and poetry by Benjamin Zephaniah, this deeply affecting work makes space for grief, connection and care, inviting us to consider how remembrance can become an act of resistance. Alongside the exhibition - ECHOES ON SCREEN: Black British Stories in Film, which on Thursday 12 November will feature documentary The Story of Lover’s Rock by Menelik Shabazz (booking required) The exhibition and screenings are running at Derby Quad until 10 January 2027 - and are free entry.
