“Is there a story to this wallpaper in Revolution, Revelation, Reinforcement: Queer Legacies in Sheffield’s Art Collection?” 🤔 Yes! The wallpaper was designed by local artist Lisa O'Hara. Each symbol and design is inspired by workshops with local LGBTQ+ communities, including groups from SAYiT and Zest and Millennium Gallery visitors who so generously shared their time and stories with us. Here are their artworks which inspired the final designs! We held workshops that involved making and talking about art and sharing experiences. Lisa then brought all of this to life in the design of the wallpaper, which wraps you up when you visit and connects personal stories with objects from the city’s collection. 💛 Look out for these symbols when you visit: • Hearts for joy! • Ying and yang for duality • Butterflies to show growth and freedom • Rainbows for spectrum • Mermaids as symbols of trans lives • Friendship bracelet and charms for connection • Badges and buttons for activism • A lock and key for trust • A Plaster / bandage representing pain and healing • Dimond shape for value and attraction • Raised first for rights … Plus, the cheeky face of a Satyr from the collection, who’s proven to be a visitor favourite! We work with communities across the city to share stories, make connections and create meaningful experiences. We can only do this with your help. If this is something you’d like to support, please donate today, either in-person or online. 👏 PLUS - pop along to the curator tour, next Thu 30 Apr, tickets still available for slots at 11am and 2pm ✨
