The East Beat workshop in April was the last in our i-Now series. We had a great turn out for this free session exploring musical threads from East & South East
Asia and the diasporas. It was an opportunity to collectively translate a song from Vietnamese and explore a specific type of folk tradition from the 1950s known as Ca Dao. The tradition uses
poetic metaphorical riddles to express romantic love and the group were tasked with creating a modern version.
We value this type of artistic and cultural learning and exploration deeply at DINA and hope that we can welcome so many more opportunities for artists, activists and innovators to share their art and expertise, and for the Dina community to be have space to discover them.
This month we had a graphic/novel/comic workshop at our Queer Writes group and on the 12th and 25th of May we’ll be hosting two events from the @festival_of_debate so keep your eyes out for what you might be able to learn!
If there’s a workshop you’d like to host or an artist/activist/creator you think should be running one in Sheffield then let us know by emailing info@dinavenue.com.
