WeCompose was born to empower schools to approach composition with confidence, flair and creativity, benefitting students and teachers long after the project finishes. During 2024/25, WeCompose reached into the lives of hundreds of young people across the country: - 34 schools took part - 830 young people participated - 377 brand new pieces of music created However, music is continuing to disappear from UK state schools: - 42% of state schools don’t offer GCSE Music. (Source: House of Lords Library) - A-Level Music entries continue to decline. (Source: ISM) - Music teacher numbers are falling fast - nearly 600 fewer than in 2011. (Hansard) - Music teacher numbers are falling fast. (Source: Hansard) For many children, especially in under-resourced areas, school might be their only chance to experience live music. Many children never get a chance to play, compose or perform. WeCompose is trying to change that and with your help we can bring it to primary schools for the first time.
