The Heavy North playing Naah Then Festival
The Heavy North are a six-piece band hailing from Liverpool, England, consisting of Kenny Stuart as the singer, Jose Ibanez as the guitarist/producer, Andrew Horrocks as the bass player, Jack Birch as the guitarist, Ste Penn as the keys, and Mark Rice as the drummer. The band was formed in 2018 and has been making waves in the music industry since then. Their unique sound of garage/blues rock has garnered a lot of attention and critical acclaim.
Early Beginnings and Breakthrough Singles
After releasing a handful of early singles, The Heavy North made their festival debut at Liverpool International Music Festival 2019 (LIMF) followed by their first sold-out hometown headline show at Jimmy’s Liverpool in September 2019. The band then went on to support Temples, Saint Agnes, and Cut Glass Kings in March 2020. However, their breakthrough came during the COVID-19 pandemic when they released their single ‘Lying To Yourself’ in May 2020 to critical acclaim. The single received its first national radio play on BBC Radio 6 Music, and the band also joined Dave Monks on BBC Introducing in Merseyside and the late Janice Long on BBC Radio Wales for live radio sessions and interviews.
Debut Album and Surprise Singles
In August 2021, The Heavy North announced their debut 10-track album ‘Electric Soul Machine,’ which was released on Record Store Day UK on Saturday 23rd April 2023. The album features the band’s first three singles ‘Darkness In Your Eyes,’ ‘No Good,’ and ‘Awake,’ which was released in October 2021. As a thank you to the first 150 Electric Soul Machine pre-order customers, the band invited them to include their name in the inner-gatefold sleeve of the debut LP.
Despite the global delay in vinyl manufacturing due to the pandemic, The Heavy North offered all Electric Soul Machine, pre-order customers, the opportunity to preview the album for 24 hours only on Christmas Day 2021. The band also surprised their fans and followers with the release of their fourth single ‘Satisfy You’ on New Year’s Day 2022, which received regional and national airplay on BBC Introducing in Merseyside and Radio X.
Live Performances and Tours
In August 2020, The Heavy North performed a live 30-minute full band set from the iconic M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool for the Liverpool Digital Music Festival, clocking up over 15,000 views and becoming the festival’s most-streamed artist of the weekend. The band also went on their first UK tour supporting blues rock duo Cut Glass Kings in February 2022. They embarked on their Electric Soul Machine UK Headline Tour in September 2022, which included their biggest SOLD OUT headline show to date at the 500-capacity Arts Club Theatre in Liverpool, where they performed their debut LP in its entirety accompanied by a 12-piece band.
