English Touring Opera returns to the Lyceum today, bringing us two great operas encompassing love, war and epic tragedy. Today’s performance (Mon 13 Mar) is of Handel’s Giulio Cesare, featuring members of Sheffield University Chamber Choir. This opera follows the events surrounding Julius Caesar’s conquest of Egypt, as well as his uneasy alliance and romance with fabled Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Tomorrow’s performance (Tue 14 Mar) is of Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia, a tragedy of great pathos. Lucrezia is considered one of Donizetti's greatest roles. Renowned as one of history’s most infamous poisoners, she is a cunning strategist and a loving mother at the same time - a complex woman in a dangerous situation. Each opera is performed on period instruments in partnership with the much-praised Old Street Band. Tickets still available here: bit.ly/3JBy9U3
