Sally Potter's debut feature is a radical experiment in narrative and a key work of early '80s feminist cinema.
Made with an all-woman crew (equally paid) it rewrote cinema history from a feminist perspective. Drawing together dance, Bergmanesque cinematography, and a cool inquiry into the bond of money, beauty and power, its a brilliant example of the uncommercial filmmaking supported by the Arts Council and BFI throughout the decade.
