If you work with young people aged 16–19 and know someone with real curiosity about film, this is a brilliant opportunity to recommend. Applications are open for the BFI Film Academy Specialist Residential: Film Curation & Archiving — a free, intensive course running Mon 16 Feb – Sun 22 Feb 2026, open to 16–19 year olds from across the UK. Across the week, participants will: - Visit leading film archives and cinema venues - Gain insight into careers in film curation, preservation, and exhibition - Meet experts from organisations including LUX Moving Image, June Givanni Pan African Cinema Archive, and HippFest - Collaboratively curate and edit an archive touring package for cinema exhibition, then present it to industry professionals No previous experience is required — just enthusiasm, commitment, and an interest in film and culture. The course is designed to help young people build skills, confidence and industry awareness, and Showroom Cinema works with the BFI Film Academy to support the next generation of UK screen industry talent. To help keep the programme accessible, there’s also a generous bursary scheme that can support travel costs or access requirements.
