"While class may divide, music brings us together. In today’s divided social climate, ‘Common People’ is a strand intended to remind us of what connects. Following two opposing working-class stories from Lancashire to London, our strand features the nostalgic and youthful ‘Northern Soul’ and the first ever Black-British musical, the hopeful reggae-infused ‘Babymother’. Despite their differing aesthetics, both films prioritise working class joy and spirit through the music that we love to celebrate." - Darci, Young Programmer
