It's the second day of our Castlegate Festival activities as we shine a light on arcades through the decades with loads of fun activities to take part in.
The Castlegate Festival celebrates the heritage, arts, music and markets of Sheffield’s oldest quarter and we're proud to have been part of this brilliant community for nearly 6 years!
The Castlegate area is most famous for being the location of the old Sheffield Castle which was built shortly after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The castle famously held Mary Queen of Scots in prison before it was later demolished in the mid 1600's. While thought to be lost, recent work on the site has uncovered the original foundations of the castle!
While you can't find anything that old excavated in our Museum, our celebration of arcades feature original playable cabinets that are over 40 years of age including favourites like Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man and Space Invaders.
We've also got modern arcade games like the Sheffield made Sonic & Sega All Stars racing to play too!
