🕹 Restoring a 1978 Classic Arcade Machine 👾
Space Invaders is a true icon of arcade gaming. Originally released in 1978, the game took the arcades by storm with its simplistic but colourful graphics, fun gameplay and striking cabinet artwork.
We recently acquired a new Space Invaders arcade cabinet - which always brings excitement to the Museum! Part of our acquisition process includes condition checking and restoration work to ensure the object is safe and available to play in the Museum.
Our latest blog details the hard work of the NVM team that gave this recent arcade cabinet import from the USA a new lease of life and is now playable within our gallery.

Pictured is our technician Gordie and Collections Officer Ann with another of our Space Invaders cabinets which is currently on a year's loan to @sheffmuseums' Weston Park Museum as part of their new @petemckee exhibition: The Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee.
We're very proud to have played a small part in this brilliant exhibition which is a testament to the brilliant work of the McKee and Sheffield Museums teams. The exhibition runs from Fri 29 November 2024 - Sun 2 November 2025 - be sure to check it out!
