In the second of our partner series in the run up to ‘Videogames Transforming Lives’ at Expo 2025 in Osaka, we are celebrating acclaimed UK studio ustwo games! Working with the studio, the National Videogame Museum elected to highlight its award winning Monument Valley. Featuring large-scale imagery from this beautiful puzzle game, the ‘Be Amazed’ zone of the exhibition allows visitors to Expo 2025 to immerse themselves in the labyrinthine game environment with playable versions of the full game trilogy available too. Influenced by Japanese prints and minimalist sculpture, Monument Valley artfully plays with perspective and illusion in these visually stunning games, where every scene looks like a piece of art. Monument Valley’s Lead Designer, Ken Wong, described the game as offering the player “geometry and impossible architecture and forgiveness." World Expos, which take place every 5 years, are platforms for education, collaboration, and cultural exchange. We’re delighted to present videogames as artistic experiences which can be a medium which meaningfully explores the power of design and the importance of perspective in play.
