New collection display at Millennium Gallery - Chile: 50 years of solidarity and resistance.
Sheffield has been involved with efforts to denounce atrocities and support those fleeing persecution in Chile since September 1973, when right-wing leaders of Chile’s security forces deposed the democratically elected government, which led to a seventeen-year brutal dictatorship, which imprisoned, tortured, executed, ‘disappeared’ thousands of people, and forced many more to be exiled.
