See our two freshest collection items in New Horizons: Growing Sheffield's Art Collection! Mathew Weir generously gifted two drawings to Sheffield’s collection two weeks ago, just in time for the opening of New Horizons! And yes, it was a race against time to get them framed and installed in time for the exhibition opening!😅
Cain and Abel (after Albrecht Durer), 2022 and St Mattias, 2024, are intricate drawings informed by historic works of art and created using the artist’s own blood. They evoke questions around the relationship between our bodies and identity, as well as the tension between life and death within art. Two very welcome additions to the collection!
Visit New Horizons: Growing Sheffield’s Art Collection to see highlights of the paintings, works on paper, sculpture and video art that have joined the collection over the last ten years.
