The Ruskin Collection: Hand, Head and Heart display in the Millennium Gallery features a new display highlighting three local charities that promote mental health and suicide prevention through walking - Naz and Matt Foundation 3 Dads Walking and Baton Of Hope UK There's also links to songs by Sean Cooney dedicated to these charities - worth a listen! (π below π)
The centerpiece of the display is the Baton of Hope, crafted by @Thomas Lyte, it symbolises community support and the journey toward hope. The lattice work shows people holding each other up and the gold and silver spirals represent the twist and turns as we help those around us climb out of despair. The Baton will continue its mission with a national tour in 2025 to raise awareness about suicide prevention π
John Ruskin originally chose to situate the Ruskin Collection in Walkley due to its closeness to nature and to encourage the city's metalworkers to escape pollution, embrace nature, and improve their mental health through walking πΆββοΈ
