Happy new year, we can't wait to welcome you! 🌈
As the rainbow is created through each person’s individual eyes relationship to the light source, nobody sees the same rainbow. The rainbow produces many challenges for the artists, they appear and disappear quickly and are produced from pure light refraction and not physical material colour. ✨
Explore colour in nature our latest display, The Ruskin Collection: Capturing Colour at the Millennium Gallery which explores how Ruskin established his collection in Sheffield to help people find inspiration in art and nature, and explores the relevance of his ideas today.
Image details:
The Rainbow, James Baker Pyne (1845)
The Rainbow, Harold Speed (1908)
John Wharlton Bunney, Sketchbook, (19th century)
