Hello! This is such an awkward post to write and I know it shouldn’t be, because it’s just a direct impact of the world we’re living in right now but if I want to continue to keep my business alive, I have no choice but to put my prices up. So, this is a little heads up, that I’ll be adding 25p onto our regular sized blends from tomorrow (if you want to do some shopping tonight, they’ll still be the old price until the morning)
I’m keeping the larger packets the same price, as this is more eco-friendly, and is using less packaging material so costs slightly less to make, which only seems fair to pass the saving on to you. I really want Birdhouse to continue to be loved for as long as I can, and I know I’ve been reluctant with price increases over the years because my goal has always been to get people excited about and drinking more tea, but reality has hit there will be no business unless I listen to my head instead of my heart right now.
Back when I started, the tea offering in the UK was tiny, and now we’re lucky to have soo many people doing some brilliant (and maybe sometimes questionable lol) things with tea! I know it’s said you shouldn’t compare your prices with other brands, but for the sake of soothing my anxiety, I had to. Even with the 25p increase, we’re still competitive and in some cases miles cheaper, especially when you consider each packet is packaged by myself and mum (who tried to retire but I had other ideas hehe) focussing on creativity and quality with a hope they’ll become favourites and kitchen cupboard staples. From the bottom of my heart, thanks for joining me on this journey, whether you discovered us on a market stall in 2012, found us in an indie retailer in 2013 (and beyond!), visited our Nether Edge shop in 2015, or discovered us through brunch at the tea bar from 2018 - thank you so much. Birdhouse is my world, and I’d hate to lose it because I didn’t value the work we’ve done so far and the plans we have for the future.
Really hope you understand, and will still plan to make your Christmas loose & local.
Loads of love, Rebecca xxx
