Opening up this Saturday with a celebration of the Windrush legacy 🎊 2023 is the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in Britain. Breweries @northernmonk and @rockleopardbrewing worked with @windrushgenerations in Bradford (who are featured on the can and you can find out more about their stories via the QR code on the can). Proceeds from the brewery sales are being donated to the organisation. The beer is a 7% stout combining West African and Caribbean flavours. Spiced coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg and rested on coconut and rum barrel oak chips. The Windrush generation helped re-build Britain after World War II. Their contribution to Britain is hugely significant. In 1998, the public space outside the Black Cultural Archives (what is now) was renamed Windrush Square to mark the anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush. In 2022 renowned Jamaican artist Basil Watson’s bronze sculpture, National Windrush Monument, was unveiled in Waterloo Station, London. Award-winning historian Professor David Olusoga’s work is great, would recommend reading and watching his TV shows, if you haven’t already. Here is a piece of his to read online: https://www.historyextra.com/period/20th-century/london-is-the-place-for-me-david-olusoga-on-the-windrush-generation/
