Finally managed to get our hands on Schlenkerla new Aecht Schlenkerla Weichsel - Rotbier aka red lager 😻 This style of beer used to be common in Franconia. The city of Nuremberg particularly was known for it. Since its production was extremely laborious with step mashes, it was replaced in the 19th century by Braunbier (i.e. brown lager). As it was produced using modern, simpler brewing methods. Schlenkerla dry the malt over fire with high-quality cherry wood (not over beech wood fire as with classic smoked beer). The cherry wood smoked malt has a fruity, sweet leaning smoke aroma. It’s a stunning copper-red colour in the glass. 📸 #schlenkerla
