In the second of our vendor profile series, we speak with the guys at Colombo Street Food - Orchard Sq to learn a little bit about their amazing Sri Lankan brand… When did you launch Colombo by Ayubowan Street Food: Sheffield Plate is the first venue to host this brand and we have been here since the venue opened in September 2021. Explain Colombo by Ayubowan Street Food in 5 words or less: Sri Lankan street food heaven! How did the brand come about? Ayubowan as a brand has been around since we launched back in 2013 in Glossop, Derbyshire. Following our time working in hotels we both really wanted to open our own restaurant, and as a Sri Lankan myself, how could I not showcase this delicious unique cuisine? We have been working really hard over the years to grow our customer base. We love the people of Sheffield as they have embraced us and our food offering since we opening in Sheffield Plate. What are you most proud about from 2022? Most proud of our teams that we have, without their hard work and dedication, we wouldn’t have been able to continue to grow our brand with a new restaurant in Halifax, West Yorkshire and Takeaway in Birmingham City Centre. What’s your favourite thing on the menu? For me it has to be the Kothtu, if I had the chance I would eat this everyday for every meal. Although nothing beats a good spicy stir fried devil dish! What plans do you have for 2023? We have lots of plans coming up, re-launching a new menu in all venues including Sheffield before spring. Also have further expansion plans with some great opportunities being explored in Bradford and Leeds at the end of this year and start of 2024.
