We're thrilled to have nabbed a couple of casks of @thornbridge's The Union IPA ~ brewed on the last piece of working union set left in the world, this is a slice of beer heritage that all hopheads are going to want to sample. Union systems were common in the 1800s when Britain was at the forefront of world brewing. Complex and beautiful, though wildly ungainly, these systems utilised a series of wooden barrels and troughs for fermentation, creating highly desirable yeast and distinctive ale - though the capitol- and labour-intensive upkeep caused the systems to fall out of favour through the twentieth century. After Marston's retired their final working union set at the beginning of this year they kindly donated a part to Thornbridge to keep this piece of brewing history alive. And now we're proud to be able to showcase The Union - a traditional IPA created from this venture. Look out for it pouring on cask here this coming week! 🍻 #headofsteam #teamsteam #beerstagram #thornbridgebrewery #unionsystem #burtonunion #paleale #sheffield #sheffieldpubs #sheffieldissuper
