šŸø Venues great for signature cocktails

Try these venues for unique drinks and a special experience.

Those in the know head to Trippets Lounge Bar, on Trippet Lane, when they fancy a martini.

The independent, family-run gin and jazz bar has a variety of them to choose from - including breakfast, dirty, pink, classic and even a truffle martini.

There are plenty of other gin classics, with a historic link, drawn from the bar’s 50+ gins plus a bartender’s choice section.

ā€œWe enjoy introducing the ā€˜new’ cocktail drinker to some of the older classics’, said the team.

ā€œThey include drinks created by the likes of Harry Craddock for the Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930 and Ada ā€˜Coley’ Coleman. Our bartender’s choice selection offers non-gin based cocktails, but again, usually with a history or story behind them.

ā€œThe menu is presented in a CD case; which seemed apt for a live music venue, and we aim to change it quarterly.ā€

The bar also offers a range of non-alcoholic options, including three booze-free gins.

Taste the Caribbean without leaving the county at Sheffield institution Cubana, in Leopold Square.

They specialise, naturally, in Cuban and Latin cocktails such as the Hemingway daiquiri or Brazil’s national drink, the caipirinha.Ā

There’s also an astonishing amount of rums - more than 300 - on offer, so prepare to spend some time browsing the menu.

Avid chocolate fans should head to The Chocolate Bar cafe, in Leah’s Yard.

They take chocolate seriously, and have a small selection of cocktails featuring their own Bullirum cacoa nib liqueur, made in collaboration with Sheffield’s Locksley Distilling.

The s’mores old fashioned with toasted marshmallows, and their own spin on an espresso martini, sound especially tempting.

Finish off the working week with a fresh cocktail overlooking the city centre skyline.

South Street Kitchen on South Street, Park Hill, serves drinks on Friday evenings, including their own innovative concoctions.

A nice pear combines Akashi-Tai shiruame umeshu plum-infused sake (try saying that after a couple) with pear, whiskey and agave.Ā The spicy margarita also comes highly recommended.

Next door, and if awards for cocktail names were a thing, The Pearl would be a winner.

And a winner it is anyway. Their pink pony club, a nod to singer Chappell Roan’s recent hit, features hibiscus tea, bubbles and lychee in an apt demonstration of the team’s agile creativity. Their seasonal menus change more frequently than most venues.

Inside, there’s a sophisticated, Brutalist-style decor.Ā And outside there’s plenty of seating with another cracking view for those warmer evenings.

A bubblegum daiquiri and a martini named Pamela Anderson are all part of the offer at Firepit Rocks.

Staff at this self-proclaimed dive bar and barbecue on West Street have clearly had fun creating the cocktail menu, which also includes a daiquiri with strawberry jam.

Escape from the everyday and soak up Pacific Ocean vibes at Sheffield’s own Tiki Bar - Bamboo Door.

The venue in Leopold Square has Insta-worthy decor, ice-cold slushy options and an impressive range of rums.

The chairman’s chocolate orange Mai Tai won an award, and there’s a whole menu section dedicated to agave concoctions.

Innovative specials, sharing cocktails and flaming lemon drizzle shots (if you know, you know) are served up daily at The Wick at Both Ends on West Street.

This late-bar is a favourite of students, groups starting a night out and couples alike.

There are also £5 margaritas - including a pineapple and a spicy option - are available all day, every day.

Step back into the 1920s at Capone’s Speakeasy, a cosy underground bar also on West Street.

Expect plenty of retro charm at the cocktail bar under a cocktail bar - Mr Wilson’s, more of which to come later - with their rhubarb and custard or smoked cherry old fashioned.

Sheffielders in the know may be wondering why we haven’t yet mentioned multi award-winning Public (fear not, it’s in the mocktail section)

But the bar’s team also curates the cocktail list at sister venue The Foresters pub on Division Street.

Formerly party central Gatsby, it now offers a select number of favourites with tiny twists from the venue. You can try an old fashioned with salted macadamia nut or an amaretto sour featuring turmeric. All eight cocktails cost exactly £10.

Rock up to Kuckoo for a drink designed around your favourite band.

This venue - also in Leopold Square - applies its musical theme to every aspect of the bar.
Its creative cocktail menu features short 35ml ā€˜rocktails’, as well as others designated under sections for solos, hooks, riffs and rhythm.

While in town, it would be rude not to try the Arctic Monkey (Ā£9.50) featuring Fox’s Glacier mint syrup.

šŸ¹ Venues great for classic cocktails and cocktail offers

Take a mate or a date to snap up a deal or enjoy a timeless concoction.

New York-inspired Manahatta is home to buzzy vibes and a two-for-one cocktail deal - perfect for group celebrations.

Their deal applies Sunday to Friday, with drinks themes around the Big Apple, the colour pink, the classics and holiday favourites, and priced around £13.

On Thursdays from 8pm, there’s also a Ā£5 offer on three selected cocktails, and they have a strong alcohol-free game too.

Enjoy another great view at The Beaten Track at the Wig and Pen.

It overlooks the stunning, Georgian, Paradise Square, and offers two cocktails for £10 or two cocktails for £12 every day.

Regulars have raved about the indulgent Turkish delight themed cocktail, and the staff have also created their own spin on classic sweets in the past.

Watching the MOJO mixologists at work is a spectacle to behold.Ā

This rock and roll themed bar on Holly Street slings out cocktails at speed, in a fun and lively atmosphere.

There’s a rooftop bar to enjoy, and a menu featuring plenty of modern classics, creamy treats, frozen and fruity coolers to boot.

Happy hour runs between 5-11pm, Sunday to Friday, and includes two for Ā£14 on selected cocktails. If you feel brave, there’s also a karaoke roomĀ šŸŽ¤

Weekend haunt Mr Wilson’s is located on the popular West Street nightlife circuit.

There’s a comprehensive classics menu, including enduring 1940s’ hit the Moscow mule and a not-for-the-faint-hearted Long Island ice tea.Ā Their bramble, white Russian and pina colada can also be made alcohol free.

A dive bar with a difference, Cheap Dates at Orchard Square also boasts a stunning (heated) outside terrace.

They offer two for £12 cocktails, a welcoming atmosphere and a proudly independent vibe to boot.

There’s a great-value daily deal at Forum Sheffield, the stalwart all-day, all-occasion venue overlooking Devonshire Green.

The two for Ā£13 deal includes ten drinks featuring the venue’s own gin, plus home-made sangria.

Owen Jenkinson, bar manager, said: ā€œAs soon as the sun comes out people flock to our terrace.Ā The biggest seller for us in terms of cocktails is the two for Ā£13 deal, probably the Aperol spritz and the cucumber and elderflower spritz.

ā€œThe red and white sangria also flies out - I think people want to feel like they are on holiday.ā€

Outside of the offer, there are classic cocktails and just-launched summer specials as part of a twice-yearly change of menu.

The new specials include a coconut margarita and a cherry Bakewell.

Early birds and late night owls can snap up the two-for-one deal at Caribbean venue Turtle Bay, on Holly Street.

The happy hour applies before 7pm and after 9pm to any two of the same drinks, such as the intriguingly-named Ā£12 painkiller (Pusser’s blue rum, coconut, pineapple, orange and nutmeg, in case you were wondering).

Avid sports fans don’t need to stick with beer as their match-time refreshment in Sheffield.

Box Sheffield sports bar at Barker’s Pool also has a cocktail menu including a two-for-one offer section.

The £12.95 deal applies all day Sunday-Friday, and until 5pm on Saturdays, and features a cherry cola fizz as well as a house iced tea.

Student favourite and late-night bar Tiger Works sits right in the heart of West Street.

The team keep their finger on the zeitgeist when it comes to cocktails - there’s a ā€˜watermelon sugar high’ on the menu - and the Ā£8.95 drinks are two-for-one until 10pm daily.

The deal applies to mocktails too, and for the truly dedicated they also offer cocktail making masterclasses.

šŸ„Ā Mocktails

Being the designated driver, or alcohol-free, no longer means sticking to soda water.

Award-winning Public, quirkily located in a former gents’ toilet under Sheffield Town Hall, is a must-visit for any cocktail connoisseur.

But as well as the highly knowledgeable staff, meticulously crafted bespoke cocktails and small plates, there’s also a dedicated alcohol-free menu.

Called Public Health, this is no token afterthought.

The menu features a selection of delicious, nattily named drinks (see, the Full Monty) designed to make mocktail drinkers feel just as considered and part of the celebrations.

Sheffield’s The Botanist bar, which has just moved into a new location on Charter Square, also offers several booze-free options in a cool interior.

The tropical tonic features zingy ginger and passion fruit syrup, while rhubarb and violet cordial is the hero ingredient in their fruit-packed cooler.

Hidden gem The Hideaway on Eyre Lane is worth seeking out. Not just for the secret courtyard, lush food and cool setting, but for the cocktails both with and without alcohol.

The staff can make mocktails either with 0 per cent spirits or all-fresh-ingredients, according to taste, and are known for their apple mojito.

Relative newcomer The Cosy Club on Holly Street has a refreshingly broad range of what they call ā€˜teetotal tipples’ on offer.

They include an Italian spritz and a virgin Mary, as well as their reinvigorating ginger nojito.

The Honey Club. The Cosy Club's signature serve for Sheffield Cocktail Week.

On the fringes of the city centre lies New Era Square, and inside,Ā Lykke offers visitors a decent selection of booze-free cocktails.

The six choices, including a spin on an Aperol spritz, are also available with alcohol if your partner or friend fancies that version.
