1. LUSH, Fargate
“Christmas is definitely our busiest time of year”, said Joss Preece, supervisor at LUSH on Fargate.
“One of our mottos is that LUSH makes products for every need, there is something for everyone. We do consultations too. For busy mums carrying every bag under the sun, they can come in and put their feet up while we sort everything they need.”

The LUSH store has now been open on Fargate for 21 years.
This Christmas, the ethical cosmetics retailer has hired extra staff, is offering click and collect and hosting a Grinch readalong event to celebrate its new Grinch-themed gifts.
Customers can take home pre-wrapped and filled gift boxes at every price point, or design their own bespoke collection to be housed in a tin or recycled knot cloth wrap.
The charming advent calendars packed with bath bombs and shower surprises are always a hit. And they also sell LUSH spa experiences, to be used at other locations.
Joss, who has worked at the store for four years, added: “Snow Fairy (the iconic bubblegum flavoured LUSH range) is also one of our biggest sellers. Working here is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. You get to meet lots of lovely people and give them a bit of a break from the chaos of Christmas.”
The LUSH team is expecting business to peak around two weeks before Christmas, with a final flurry on Christmas Eve.
Joss added: “We do get the desperate Christmas Eve shoppers, when it tends to be people who forgot or ordered something that didn’t arrive. We’re always happy to see people and help them.”
Download the LUSH app to see all of the Fargate store’s upcoming events.

4. In The Making, Orchard Square
There aren’t many places where you can shop from more than 120 artisan makers all under one roof.
But at In The Making, in Orchard Square, you can. The 2026 new opening is the brainchild of three makers who came together to create a space where ceramists, candle makers, print designers, jewellers and more could show their work to the world.

Ellie Stephens, one of the co-owners along with her mum and mum’s best friend, said: “We can’t wait for Christmas. We expect it to be really busy, with candles, gift sets and food products such as chocolate being the biggest sellers.
“Our Sheffield-themed products also sell really well, both to people who still live here and to people who have moved away but still miss home.”
In The Making stocks everything from an Orchard Square themed candle to Santa’s Little Helper cups, stunning earrings and novelty stickers. Around 70 per cent of all the products were created by Sheffield makers.
Ellie, who is a print and card maker and also a window artist, even painted the shop’s storefront for Christmas herself. She added: “A lot of people come in here to buy gifts but end up taking things away for themselves. We opened in May and it has been going really well, people love to shop locally. In The Making came about because we couldn’t find somewhere to sell what we were making, places were either full or not big enough.”
