50-Metre Mural Open to Public
With shoppers being welcomed back to the city centre, Orchard Square Shopping Centre has reopened its doors to more than just shopping with the reveal of local artist Will Rea's 50-metre mural.
Inspired by the artist's unique interpretation of the city and the emotions it evoked, the paint was still drying on the mammoth mural when lockdown was announced, and with the re-opening of non-essential shops, will be available for the enjoyment of public eyes once more.
The piece was commissioned in August by the LAP, the property owners in collaboration with Museums Sheffield. Will beat dozens of other creatives to make his mark on Sheffield City Centre.
Filmmaker Andrew Bainbridge has created a playful ‘making of’ edit of the mural’s creation. It captures the magnitude of the task, the challenges but ultimately the impact of the finished work
The re-opening of Orchard Square Shopping Centre means that shoppers can now visit high street names such as TK Maxx, Schuh, The Body Shop and Waterstones. Visit the Orchard Square website for full opening times
