📖 Juno Books: Independent feminist and queer books in Sheffield

A feminist and queer community specialist bookshop located on Chapel Walk.

They have 'a passion for amplifying marginalised voices, showcasing new work and highlighting independent presses.'

Knollys and Smart Vintage Books can be found in Arundel Emporium, a collective of creatives and independents situated on Matilda Street. The shop itself is full of delights, stocking everything from folklore and horror to cult fiction.

💡 Arundel Emporium on Matilda Street opened its doors in June 2025.

📖 La Biblioteka – A Bookshop

La Biblioteka is an award-winning contemporary magazine and bookshop located in the wonderful surroundings of Leah's Yard, just off Cambridge Street.

They sell a curation of books and magazines that span literary fiction, essays, politics and current affairs, nature writing, design and art, fashion, sport and children’s books.

💡 La Biblioteka fills a gap in the market for 'unique and creative magazines' that you’d struggle to find anywhere else in the city.

Robin's Nest was founded in 2014 with 'the intent of showcasing diverse comics to a wider audience and creating somewhere inclusive and accessible for newcomers.'

At their shop on Hereford Street, which opened in 2022, they're happy to give recommendations, but they won’t be pushy about it. It’s important to them that you read what you want, not what other people say you should be reading!

No guide to reading and bookshops would be complete without mention of the wonderful Sheffield Central Library. 

Opening times
Monday: 10am to 5pm
Tuesday: 10am to 5pm
Wednesday: 10am to 8pm
Thursday: 10am to 5pm
Friday: 10am to 5pm
Saturday: 10am to 4pm

💡 The Central Library was built in the 1930s and is now a Grade II listed building.

Many of you will have known it as WHSmith, but you'll find the same well-stocked book section on the first floor of TG Jones on Fargate. It's a book lovers dream! 


📖 Waterstones

📖 Bookshop in Sheffield - Orchard Square | Waterstones

Waterstones in Orchard Square have an expert range of travel guides, a diverse fiction section, and 'the most exciting children's department this side of the moon.'

They also have a huge range of games, gifts, cards, stationery and toys.

There's also a lovely Cafe W where you can enjoy tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes. Cafe W is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm and on Sundays between 10:30am and 4pm.

Waterstones host a regular series of events and activities, including 'meet the author' sessions. Visit the Waterstones Orchard Square events page for details on upcoming events.

💡 Did you know that Waterstones, which was established in 1982, dropped the apostrophe from their name in 2012? It was quite a controversial decision at the time, with the chairman of the Apostrophe Society calling the move..."just plain wrong".
