Mother’s Day provides the perfect time to show just how much we appreciate all the wonderful mums, carers and mother figures in our lives.

Maybe it's a slap-up dinner and a few celebratory drinks that you are looking for. Perhaps you’ll go with the trusty gift of flowers and a box of chocolates? Or it could even be a good book.

Marks & Spencer on Fargate are always there to serve up some wonderful chocolate selections and this year is no different! A hit with the Fargate Food Hall team is this chocolate and truffle selection featuring 'milk, dark and blond chocolate truffles and petals, each bursting with a fruit flavour filling, buttery caramel or smooth ganache.' They look good enough to eat! 🤤

Sheffield Dry Gin 🍸

The good folks behind The Forum and The Common Room (you'll find both venues on Devonshire Street 😉) True North know a thing or two about gin! Their Sheffield Dry Gin has a core range featuring original, moorland berries, raspberry and pomegranate, marmalade, strawberry and black pepper…plus limited editions such as lime and thai ginger! There are plenty of places to choose from, but if you're looking for something a little bit 'quirky' or for something that's 'Made in Sheffield', you may want to check out the Sheffield Makers' Shop in the Winter Garden. This is the place to get something unique made by local artists.

Amid the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the fabulous Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel spa offers contentment for mind, body and soul. If your mum loves pure luxury, she’ll love this place so why not treat her to a spa day?

Or how about joining the team from LUSH for a Sheffield Mother's Day Pamper session on Saturday 18th March between 6:30pm and 8pm. Make your own 'LUSH fresh face mask' and 'an exclusive new bath bomb, before settling down for a hand and arm massage workshop.' Sounds like heaven to us 😇

Afternoon Tea ☕

Afternoon Tea makes a lovely gift for any time of the year, but it's especially true on Mother's Day. Here are a just few of our city centre favourites for this year 🥰 

Browns, serves afternoon tea between 3pm and 5pm. At just £22 per person it comes with a selection of savouries, scones, mini cakes and puddings. You can upgrade to include a Roku G&T for £30 or a glass of Moët & Chandon champagne for £32. Very, very tempting!

Afternoon tea is served every day between midday and 4.30pm at The Slug & Lettuce. The Holly Street gastro pub offers three types of afternoon tea, all of which come with a selection of sandwiches, scones and bite-sized desserts. The 'classic' tea costs £15 and is served with tea or coffee; the 'tipsy' tea costs £21 and comes with two glasses of prosecco and the 'cocktails and cakes' option (also £21) comes with two cocktails or mocktails.

How about switching up your afternoon tea plans and throwing in a spot of bouquet making? On Sunday 12th March, the good folks at Revolución de Cuba are hosting an afternoon tea with a difference 🥰 Limited spaces available, so it may best to snap this one up early!

Of course, you could always 'just' go with a Bottomless Brunch or an Afternoon Tea at Revolución de Cuba on Sunday 19th March. Treat your Madre!

Ego Mediterranean Restaurant & Bar is serving up a really special Mother's Day weekend Afternoon Tea menu this year. Available on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th March (please note: pre-bookings essential), their mouth-watering Mother's Day Weekend Afternoon Tea is available for just £24.95 per person. And, for just £21.95, you can opt to 'click and collect' for what is sure to be a really special treat for a lucky Mum!

And, before we move on from all things 'afternoon tea', it would be foolish of us not to mention the Sheffield city centre staple that is Birdhouse Tea Company, they're always on hand to serve up something really special. 


Mother’s Day treats (and eats) 😋

Why not take your mum somewhere special for the big day? Here are a just a few pointers to some of the places you could try out this year. 

Silversmiths is a perfect stop for a mouth-watering lunch on Mother's Day. Their special Mother's Day Menu offers the choice of two courses for £30 or three courses for £35. And they're also throwing in a complimentary prosecco for every mother 🥂

Now this one may have slipped your eye, but did you know that Devonshire Street 'mainstays' The Forum Kitchen & Bar now serve up delicious Sunday roasts? Every Sunday from mid-day until 6pm, they're serving up a 'smoky take on a traditional roast', comprised of a fully loaded Yorkshire pudding, 'brimming with all the trimmings', it's topped off with 'a choice of smoked chicken, succulent belly pork, chargrilled aubergine or hearty beef brisket.' And all that for just £16.50 per person. You can even 'go bottomless' for an extra £15 per person. Sounds like great value to us and one we need to be checking out soon! 

Of course, you could always 'toss a coin' between popular comfort food 'faves' like pizza or pie?

How about taking a trip to Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana on Division Street for a taste of one of their much-loved pizzas or you could take a stroll up to BrewDog Sheffield where it's 2 for 1 on pizza until 5pm on Mother's Day itself.

And, if you're still looking for that perfect pizza option, there really is only one way to 'make Mother’s Day' at Pizza Express. Heart. Shaped. Dough. Balls. Freshly baked with a garlic butter dip. Followed by a delicious Classic pizza....and an indulgent dessert of course 😋

Over at Pieminister, there's a bottomless brunch to look forward to! You’ll have an hour and a half to enjoy a 'brunch pie meal' with 'selected bottomless drinks' including draught beers, prosecco, a refreshing mimosa or cider, all for just £29. Talk about a treat 😋

More Italian-inspiration comes from ASK Italian on Cambridge Street who want to celebrate 'All the Mammas' on Mother’s Day'. They're offering a three course set menu for £25.95, plus you can add a Passion Fruit Martini for just £5. 

Meanwhile, the folks over over at The Botanist and The Furnace are cooking up special two or three course set menus and every mum dining with them on Mother’s Day receive a Miniature St. Germain bottle and Fever-Tree soda. And, if you're a student who would love to treat their mum to a special day whilst not breaking the bank, The Furnace is giving a 20% student discount on set menus on Mother's Day itself...just don't forget to say you're a student when you're booking in and remember that all-important student ID!

Magic and Live Music with Cubana 💃

Leopold Square favourites, Cubana, are serving up a day of magic and live music for their guests on Mother's Day. Resident magician Mark Maycock (MM Magic) will be on-hand with some close-up magic between 4-8pm and there will be live music courtesy of Emily Claire West between 3-5pm and Piero Tucci between 5:30-7:30pm. And, as usual, Cubana will have their full tapas menu on offer 🍴 Oh and did we mention there's a free glass of prosecco for all mums on arrival 🥂

The Matt Goss Experience 🎙️

Tuesday 28th March | 19:30 | Sheffield City Hall

Join legendary Bros frontman, Matt Goss, in 'an unmissable night of his biggest hits, new original music, and a personal tribute to one of the greatest songwriters ever, Cole Porter, in an evening of unashamed swing, glitz and swagger by one of the UKs best showmen.' The Oval Hall inside Sheffield City Hall is the venue for what's described as 'not just a concert', but 'an experience not to be missed.'

If you’re still looking for gift inspiration this Mother’s Day, theatre tickets are a great idea particularly as Sheffield famously has the largest theatre complex outside of London.

Amongst the many highlights of a packed season, the Lyceum Theatre is hosting The Great Gatsby as the 1920s 'roar back to life in Northern Ballet’s Jazz Age smash' between Tuesday 21st and Saturday 25th March.
