Thanks to World Beer Awards for Jules’ invite last week to judge in round one of their competition in Norwich. She tasted her way through around 120 beers from low/no, varying types of IPAs, Belgian style witbier, English pale ale, Double IPAs, flavoured wild and sour, light lagers, speciality beer - experimental, dark lager, plus stouts and porters - Imperial stout. Then she judged a round of 40+ different ciders for the World Cider Awards. It’s the first time back for her, after a couple of years break, having a baby. The judging process is such a unique experience and the WBA team organise a very professional competition. Jules finds it really useful to her day to day work at Hop Hideout and professionally interesting to do such a deep dive of individual beer and cider styles and to see what’s going on in the industry through this lens. Also to share new/interesting info she’s learnt along the way, for you lovely lot!
