The WalkSafe app is a free, personal safety tool that helps you feel more secure when travelling around the city, especially at night.
With features such as location sharing, journey tracking, and safe route planning, WalkSafe allows you to stay connected with friends or family while you’re on the move. It also highlights areas and routes to help you make informed choices about your journey.
It’s a simple way to add an extra layer of reassurance when heading home after a night out.
South Yorkshire was the first area in the UK to launch the app countywide. It is just one tool of many which police and partners are using to improve safety across our communities, particularly for women and girls. Venues and other key sites across our districts are encouraged to raise and maintain their safety training and standards in order to meet the criteria to feature on the app as a ‘safe space’, leading to improvements in safety and better experiences for all. The WalkSafe app has been funded by South Yorkshire Police. It is supported by the Safer Sheffield Partnership, Safer Rotherham Partnership, Safer Barnsley Partnership, Safer Stronger Doncaster Partnership and SYMCA.
