Pints with dad on Father’s Day 🍺

Hop Hideout
Leah's Yard, Cambridge Street

When families head into award-winning independent bar Hop Hideout, Jules Gray likes them to feel welcome.

This Father’s Day, she’s expecting plenty of families, or children with their dads and grandads, coming through the door in Leah’s Yard.

Jules said: “As a parent myself I think it’s important to have these third spaces for intergenerational socialising. I get a lot of new parents coming in with their babies because they think it’s a safe space. Children are part of society too.”

Jules Gray, Hop Hideout

Hop Hideout stocks more than 200 drink options, from British cider to curated wines, a hugely diverse range of specialty beers and varied alcohol-free drinks such as kombucha.

She expects German and Bavarian beers, as well as local ones from Abbeydale, Loxley and St Mars of the Desert breweries, to be popular around this month’s celebration.

Gifts, ranging from mini kegs of Bradfield and Thornbridge beers to brewer merchandise, are also proving popular.

Jules added: “People love to go to their favourite places as a treat on Father’s Day. Breweries often bring out special beers for the occasion, so I will get something that has a sentimental connection to the day as well. We’ll have a curated selection of beers on draft for the day.”

Hop Hideout also has games and colouring for families, as well as snacks, spirits and more.

Fun experiences on Father’s Day 🎉

Krazy Races in association with Roundabout
Sunday 21 June

Experience Sheffield city centre with dad in a new and unique way - thanks to soapbox derby Krazy Races.

Up to 40 handmade soapboxes will race from Barker’s Pool to the bottom of Fargate in the event, brought to the city by youth homelessness charity Roundabout.

Emily Jones, fundraising manager at the city centre charity based on Rockingham Lane, said: “When we met the team behind Krazy Races we thought it was an amazing event, and we’d love to bring it to Sheffield. It’s so much fun and really fits in with the vibes of Roundabout.

“The response from the city has been incredible - we are expecting around 15,000 people on the day.”

As well as their race, teams will have to entertain crowds, there will be an RAF flypast, as well as stalls and go karts on The Moor.

The event will boost Roundabout and showcase its vital work providing shelter, support and life skills to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Emily added: “There is something there for the whole family. Even if Father’s Day is a day that’s hard for you, as is the case with some of our young people, it’s the perfect distraction or the perfect day out.”

There will be plenty of wraparound activity for Krazy Races in the city centre, including Sheffield Plate food hall at Orchard Square, who have already confirmed it will be hosting a giant Hot Wheels City play area, racing fun for children and a free drink for dad when purchasing a meal.
