12 days of festive food and drink

Eat, drink and be merry in Sheffield city centre this Christmas!

Whether it’s a cup of something hot in a cafe oozing charm, a flavourful dish at a restaurant inspired by far-flung places, or a locally brewed pint in a cosy pub – the festive season provides the perfect excuse to taste what Sheffield city centre has to offer.

Here are a few tips on where to begin your feasting and drinking adventure.

Warm up with a hot brew. The city centre is home to plenty of fantastic independent coffee shops – try Marmadukes (Norfolk Row or Cambridge Street), Steam Yard, Tamper, 1554 Coffee Shop inside Sheffield Cathedral (don't forget to have a look in the lovely gift shop whilst you're there!), 200 Degrees, Albies, Couch, CAWA Coffee, Mows, The Cabin or Birdhouse Tea Bar & Kitchen. And, if you're after a 'festive favourite', check out the seasonal range of drinks at Costa, Caffe Nero and Starbucks 😋 We could go on (and on), but we need to move on!

Spend the evening at the Alpine Lodge in the Peace Gardens, or venture down The Moor for a pint or two in the Alpine Bar, surrounded by the wonderful wood-panelled stalls. Christmas Market bars are open from Friday 18 November right through until Christmas Eve 🍻

Pick up something 'healthy in a hurry'. The likes of Edo Sushi (opening soon in Kommune), Chakra Lounge, Street Food Chef, Humpit and QC’s Bagels all make nutritious pitstops when you’re rushing between shops!

Book a table at one of Leopold Square’s eclectic array of restaurants. The delightful square is home to a wide range of fantastic venues such as: The Botanist, Wagamama, Zizzi, Pho and Cubana plus cocktail bars Kuckoo and The Bamboo Door.

Do something 'just a little bit different' this Christmas and break out the BBQ! Get involved in a bit of 'Me. You. BBQ' with SMOKE or how about taking a trip to Caribbean restaurant and bar Turtle Bay Sheffield? It's 'easy-breezy' all the way through to Christmas this year with their fantastic range of dining and drink offerings 🍹

Take a culinary tour of Asia, trying Japanese BBQ with Guyshi, contemporary Chinese cuisine at China Red, 'do Christmas' at Tsuki, or sushi at Mr Miyagi, Sakushi or Sushi Express, or gettig stuck into a 'proper curry' in one of the city centre's many great restaurants such as 400 Degrees,'inspired by the heat of Tandoor.'

Enjoy a slice of Italy at one of the city’s many pizza places – from local institution Mama’s and Leonies to upmarket independents like Piccolino, or there's the 'new kids on the block' Rudy's, alongside Terrace GoodsBloo 88 and Mojo. Or you could always take in 'family favourites' like Pizza Express and Bella Italia.

Dine on fresh, local, seasonal fare at Silversmiths, AKA The Yorkshire Restaurant.

Head out on an ale trail. The centre of Sheffield is a destination for craft beer and ale enthusiasts, with drinking holes like the Hop Hideout in Kommune, Triple Point Brewing, Sheffield Tap, The Bath Hotel, BrewDog, The Red Deer, Rutland Arms, Industry Tap, Fagan’s, Dog and Partridge, The Grapes, and many more. Some of them even have their fire lit at this time of year, for an extra cosy pint!

Sample some of the finest street food around at food courts Sheffield Plate or Kommune.

Hit up the Devonshire Quarter for cocktails. Division Street and West Street are lined with places that know how to stir and shake up a storm, like Forum, The Old House, Gatsby, The Green Room, The Wick at Both Ends and Olivia's

Rustle up something at home. You’ll find all you need to create your own fantastic festive feasts at the Moor Market, Beres Pork Shop on Pinstone Street or Simmonite on Division Street, plus something tasty for afters from the many stalls at this year's Christmas Market on Fargate, around the Peace Gardens and - for the first time - on The Moor.
