Did you spot us on last night's BBC Look North? We are honoured that our upcoming project, ‘Behind the Screens’, was featured on the evening news With support from the British Film Institute (BFI) Screen Heritage Fund, we are launching a new and exciting project aimed at transforming how UK videogame heritage is collected, preserved and understood. Videogames are one of the UK’s most influential creative industries, yet much of their history remains undocumented or at risk of being lost. Our Behind the Screens project aims to change that. Through this project, we will: - Carry out the first comprehensive survey of materials held by UK games studios, working with Ukie to explore the foundations of a coordinated national archive - Work directly with players, fans, streamers, and grassroots creators to collect materials that reflect the real experiences of game culture - Reactivate and expand the Videogame Heritage Society (VHS) — the UK’s only Subject Specialist Network for digital games - Create a new public exhibition of oral histories, opening up previously hidden stories of UK screen heritage to audiences nationwide We’re proud to see this work highlighted by the BBC and excited to begin uncovering the people, practices and communities behind the games.
