Two provocative stories about the pressure of parental expectations, ending in explosions of violence 📽️ BFI Young Programmers’ Festival 2026 🩸 Bloodlines / Motherhood | Thu 19 Feb We Need to Talk About Kevin (15) and Carrie (15). Not for the faint of heart: https://bit.ly/4pnz7Wl 🎬 Short film Dancing with My Mother screens ahead of We Need to Talk About Kevin 🎨 Stay after Carrie for a ‘colour barcode’ game "Together, these films explore the perspectives of both mother and child, abuser and abused. Combined, we aim to demonstrate the significance colour usage can have within a film, sticking to a singular colour to show how differently the colour red can be used to create meaning." - Ayo, Young Programmer
Cluck me sideways. Who fancies a fried chicken feast? Shall we bring this back on our next menu? #chorlton #sheffield #chester #liverpool

Two decades of youthful excess, one unforgettable night on the dancefloor! 📽️ BFI Young Programmers’ Festival 2026 🎤 Common People | Wed 18 Feb Lose yourself in the nostalgia-fuelled classic Northern Soul (15) and dancehall-drama Babymother (15): https://bit.ly/4pnz7Wl 🎬 Short film King Ponce screens ahead of Northern Soul 🎤 Babymother followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with writer/director Julian Henriques "While class may divide, music brings us together. In today’s divided social climate, ‘Common People’ is a strand intended to remind us of what connects. Following two opposing working-class stories from Lancashire to London, our strand features the nostalgic and youthful ‘Northern Soul’ and the first ever Black-British musical, the hopeful reggae-infused ‘Babymother’. Despite their differing aesthetics, both films prioritise working class joy and spirit through the music that we love to celebrate." - Darci, Young Programmer

Shining a light on some incredible concerts coming up in our spring season, our series of #SpringSpotlights celebrates a performance we can’t wait to share with you! Symmetries in Sound is a celebration of musical games and mirrors including ‘Der Spiegel’, a piece for two violinists looking at the same sheet of music, one right-way-up, the other upside-down. Also playing with reading the music is De Machaut’s ‘Ma fin est mon commencement’, a piece performed forwards then backwards. Pärt’s popular piece for cello and piano, ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ (Mirror in the mirror) and Debussy’s impressionistic evocation, ‘Reflets dans l’eau’ (Reflections in the water) highlight musical mirrors, and the concert culminates with a wonder of musical structure, Bartók’s String Quartet No.4, composed as a musical arch. 🎫 SYMMETRIES IN SOUND Ensemble 360 🗓️ Mon 16 March, 8pm 📍 The Stables MK, Milton Keynes If you’re in Sheffield, you can also see Symmetries in Sound this Friday at Upper Chapel (7pm)! See comments for details and booking link. #thisischambermusic #miltonkeynes #miltonkeynesevents #miltonkeynesmusic #ensemble360 #E360 #mirrors #derspiegel #spiegelimspiegel #reverse #reflection
Thank You!🙌🎉 We are delighted to share that we have reached our £30,000 Christmas fundraising goal! A huge thank you to everyone who played a part in helping us achieve this milestone. Now, thanks to you, we can enter 2026 full of enthusiasm for the exciting things ahead! This year, look out for Behind the Screens, which pioneers new preservation methods and community-led partnerships suited to the complexity of videogames. Next month, we will also be launching Image Empire, a unique digital artwork that explores the conflict between the real and the virtual and how AI is changing the world we live in. Plus, we’re always here for a fun day out! This February half-term, we’ll be exploring the world of virtual pets!
