As owners of both The Yard Gallery and Mesters’ Market we were devastated to have to make the very tough decision to close both businesses. Across the 2 businesses we were supporting over 100 Sheffield based artists, crafters and makers. We didn’t set the businesses up on a whim, we spent several months researching, visiting similar businesses and talking to owners in other city centres, that were thriving. However, the harsh reality is that in Sheffield it just didn’t work. We could discuss the many reasons why, but this is not the forum to do so, likewise addressing some of the speculation or untruths that have appeared in various publications and platforms. What we would like to do is say a heartfelt thank you to all the customers, artists and suppliers who have supported us over our time in the city centre. We have been heartened by the many positive comments about the spaces we created from customers (from all over the world). Finally, we wish small independent traders everywhere success, it’s increasingly difficult to stay afloat, so please keep supporting them!!
