Where to eat and drink near Devonshire Green

If you want something a little different and love finding new and interesting places to eat, drink and shop, The Devonshire Quarter is probably already your favourite place in Sheffield. But even if you’re a regular, there’s always new places waiting to be discovered. The world would be a better place if every high street felt more like The Devonshire Quarter – it’s a bustling hub of creativity and free-thinking, where a community of independent business support each other.

Venues to check out when you're here for the football:

The Common Room

Sheffield’s only two-storey sports bar, with more than 50 TVs showing up to three sports channels at a time. Plus more than 10 pool tables and a ping-pong table – all for hire by the minute. Hungry? The menu is all about dirty burgers, fried chicken and a large selection of vegan alternatives.

The Forum first opened its doors way back in 1992, and really set the tone for the vibrant hub of independent businesses we all enjoy today. Pop in for quality breakfast or a quality night out – and everything in between. The Forum never lets you down. And when the sun shines, things get even better, as the bar moves out onto the terrace and Devonshire Green becomes a sea of deckchairs.

The Old House

The Old House is all about cocktails, gin and vermouth – all enjoyed late into the night in an intimate cosy atmosphere. Not sure what to order? Staff are always happy to discuss what you like and find you the perfect cocktail – and expertly mix it right in front of you. It even runs a gin school and you can book your own private gin experience too. Not quite gin o’clock? The coffee and food are pretty special too.

200 Degrees Coffee

200 Degrees Coffee was founded by University of Nottingham alumni Rob Darby and Tom Vincent. In 2012 the pair began roasting coffee in their garage, and just two years later the first 200˚ Coffee shop was opened in Nottingham. Since then Rob and Tom have opened coffee shops in some of the UK’s coolest cities. Expect lovingly roasted coffee, pastries, baguettes and wraps in a cool, inviting setting that links with Sheffield’s industrial past, featuring a distressed copper wall installed by Tom himself.

Frog & Parrot

The Frog and Parrot is the oldest of the pubs in the Devonshire Quarter and has been serving ale since before 1712. But it’s not just about the beer. This Georgian pub also has musical heritage, as well as featuring on the Arctic Monkey’s first album, it’s also where Joe Cocker signed his first album. Ask the bar staff for a musical anecdote and they’re sure to tell you something you didn’t know about Sheffield’s musical past. The Frog and Parrot has been a mainstay of Devonshire Street life for hundreds of years and is set to continue bringing bands, beer and great food for the years to come.

Pieminister

From its first restaurant in Bristol, which was inspired by a pie and mash cart in Australia, there are now 15 Pieminister restaurants and cafes across the UK. As the name suggests, it serves up pie, mash and all the trimmings. There are plenty of vegan, veggie and gluten free options, and if it’s too hot for pie, give Pieminister’s soft serve ice cream a go.

Simmonite

A proper family-run butchers with extensive meat and fish counters, deli and a few extra surprises – while you’re picking up some choice cuts for tea, you can grab a few beers from their range of craft ales. Simmonite has been around for more than 70 years – opened first as a market stall in 1946 by owner Carl’s grandfather, and it’s still very much a family affair. Almost everyone who works at Simmonite is related in some way, and it makes for a really friendly atmosphere. It’s also a firm favourite at lunchtime too – and with such a range of fresh hot and cold sandwiches and wraps, jackets and pies, it’s easy to see why.

Lucky Fox

If you’ve not already, you have to try Lucky Fox. A Brooklyn-inspired diner with a passion for great fried chicken and great beer. Everything’s fresh and cooked to order – the kitchen doesn’t even have a freezer or microwave. Just quality local produce, cooked New York City style – along with classic American diner service with a smile. It all started in 2014 with a month-long chicken pilgrimage, seeking out the finest fried chicken the Big Apple had to offer – and bringing the best bits back to Sheffield. Its hero dish is Chick’n Waffles which is mind-blowing!

A great little coffee shop with a New Zealand twist. Speak to the staff and you soon realise the staff are all complete coffee geeks. It has five different types of coffee on rotation, and staff can all tell you about the differences in great detail. Tamper brought the best of Kiwi café culture to Sheffield, with a laid back atmosphere and a New Zealand inspired brunch menu served till 3pm – plus a selection of fresh cakes and breads delivered daily by Depot Bakery.
